Butter Boy

Our Little Garden Gnome
Perfectly normal eating a stick of butter like candy.
This is exactly where I would sleep if I was trying to ward off the sick demons with my talisman.
More butter boy.
Oh how I wish I could rock an outfit like this.
Sick Monster Truck Chuck, his sand timer, and Ms. Persuasive.

Daddy Math Problems

Wednesday morning rant:
"I'm shaving Charlie's head. We would save sooo much time in the morning! Do you realize the time I spend combing his hair in the morning. 30 seconds a day x 365 / 2 =... 3 hours a year!!!!! I am doing it!!!! Seriously. OMG 3 hours back of my life."

(Actually, I did the math and it is 3.042 hours Mark)

Who's in charge?

"Mom, is Santa the 'in-charge United States of America guy"...or is Obama in charge? ...Why is Santa not in charge? I am going to listen to Santa...not Obama."

Practice, practice, practice!

Watch Charlie learning. Then, watch as our children learn at such an early age that smashing cake in your face at the end of Happy Birthday is totally normal. Thank you.

I've got priors!!!!

On the way to school this morning OIivia pointed and yelled, "COP!!!! Daddy, you got priors!!? Charlie, you got priors?!!! Yeah, Daddy, you've got priors..."

Thank you!

Yesterday, I shared Olivia's excitement to go to school with the principal. The principal shared Olivia's video with the entire teaching staff. One of the 4th grade classes posted a message for Olivia and their teacher wrote us a personal note as you may see below.

From the teacher ~ (I have shortened names to protect the innocent)

"Dear Nowlin Family,

Jeff H. shared your YouTube video with the teaching staff today of your daughter receiving her acceptance certificate to attend GH next year. I am a 4th grade teacher here at GH. I wanted you to know that I also shared your video with my class and they felt compelled to leave you a message on your YouTube posting.

Thank you for sharing your excitement with us!  The impact of the value your family places on education is reinforcing to me not only as a teacher but as a parent myself of elementary aged children. It is an important reminder to me of why I do what I do. Education, at times, can be tough for a variety of reasons but at the heart of it all is creating indelible memories – learning starts here. Olivia, I hope, will never forget the moment she walked into the kitchen to discover that she received the greatest start to an education possible in the State of Minnesota. My wife and I believe that so strongly that we played the same lottery game and was lucky enough to get our children to attend GH too. My son is in 4th grade and my daughter will be starting kindergarten next year.

We look forward to having you as a GH family next year and, perhaps, I'll see you in 4th grade in 5 short years!

Warm regards,

Dan G."

From the class:

"Dear Nowlin Family - we are the 4th graders of Mr. G's - welcome to GH! Kindergarten is just the tip of the ice berg! Get ready for 6 years packed with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) - especially music! Look for Mr. G's daughter she's a kindergartner here next year too! We are very honored that you chose our (your) school! See you soon!"

Here is Olivia's video thank you...and tangents....

The Wheels on the Bus

Olivia was so excited to learn she would be riding the school bus next fall. She was screaming in delight when she came to and asked,

"Mom, am I going to have to pay the driver everyday? Will I need to tip him?"

Watch the video...
